چکیده

Electron-nuclear relaxation dynamics are studied in Hgn 2 (11<n<16,n518) using time-resolved photoelectron imaging. The excess electron in the anion uniquely occupies the p band and is excited intraband by 1.53 eV pump photons; the subsequent dynamics are monitored by photodetachment at 3.06 eV and measurement of the photoelectron images as a function of pump-probe delay. The initially excited state decays on a time scale of ;10 ps, and subsequent relaxation dynamics reveal a smooth evolution of the photoelectron spectra towards lower electron kinetic energy over 50–100 ps. Qualitatively, the relaxation process is captured by a simple kinetic model assuming a series of radiationless transitions within a dense manifold of electronic states. All the clusters studied show similar dynamics with the exception of Hg11 2 in which the initially prepared state does not decay as quickly as the others. © 2004 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1809573#

Time-resolved intraband electronic relaxation dynamics of Hgn

clusters (n57 – 13,15,18) following intraband electronic excitation at 1250 nm ~1.0 eV!. This study furthers our previous investigation of single electron, intraband relaxation dynamics in Hgn 2 clusters at 790 nm by exploring the dynamics of smaller clusters (n57 – 10), as well as those of larger clusters (n511– 13,15,18) at a lower excitation energy. We measure relaxation time scales of 2–9 p...

Incorporating Domain-Independent Planning Heuristics in Hierarchical Planning

Heuristics serve as a powerful tool in modern domainindependent planning (DIP) systems by providing critical guidance during the search for high-quality solutions. However, they have not been broadly used with hierarchical planning techniques, which are more expressive and tend to scale better in complex domains by exploiting additional domainspecific knowledge. Complicating matters, we show th...

Theory for the Nonlinear Ultrafast Dynamics of Small Clusters after Ionization

The ultrafast relaxation of small clusters immediately after ionization is studied. For small Hgn clusters we determine the fragmentation-time distributions induced by ionization. A dramatic change of the fragmentation behaviour occurs when the temperature before ionization reaches the melting point of the neutral clusters. The ultrafast dynamics depends nonlinearly on initial conditions regard...

Influence of Interface Thermal Resistance on Relaxation Dynamics of Metal-Dielectric Nanocomposite Materials under Ultrafast Pulse Laser Excitation

Nanocomposite materials, including noble metal nanoparticles embedded in a dielectric host medium, are interesting because of their optical properties linked to surface plasmon resonance phenomena. For studding of nonlinear optical properties and/or energy transfer process, these materials may be excited by ultrashort pulse laser with a temporal width varying from some femtoseconds to some hund...

Optical detection of interfering pathways in subfemtosecond multielectron dynamics.

We show how time-resolved coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering can be used to identify interfering pathways in the relaxation dynamics of autoionizing transients in many-electron systems, on femto- and attosecond time scales. For coherent population of many states, autoionizing wave-packet dynamics is resolved. We identify bound-bound, continuum-bound, and bound-continuum-bound contributions a...
